Don’t tell me about your day.
March 21 2026
I had like the most unhinged dream last night, there were like two things going on.
First, I was staying in some place with [male human] — I guess we were travelling but I think we went for like a day and decided to keep extending or something.
We get to the hotel to check in. We got a deal for like this suite — the best room — 6B. It also came with a full bottle of bubbles in a wine bottle (e.g., not bubbles bottle), and it cost $36 total.
We met the hotel manager who was some Breta-Firth-like character and she was aghast that we got a deal to stay in this hotel for $36. We go up to our room and it's very dim, expansive, old, polished, wooden furniture, kind of the same ambience you'd get in an old temple in Hong Kong, decorated with fabrics in like Jazzy pinks and slightly-off mint-to-leafy-green patterns, wooden headboards, nic-naks — all eclectic.
Unlike normal hotels, when you leave you can take whatever you want with you. Like something? Grab it. This headboard would look good in your apartment? It's yours. Souvenir? Yes please.
I found this small ball with patterns on it — between the size of a cricket ball and a golf ball. We were going to leave and there was this Latina lady, weathered-looking but still quite young (38?) with her kid (3 yo?) sweeping the floor with a wooden broom.
[male human] was out the door and I placed the ball on the bed (it had a covering with the same color and slightly different patterns, and I noticed that when I moved, the contrast of the two created some visual effect, where it looked like both were moving in circular motion around the center, but in opposite directions. It was fascinating, mesmerising.
I got out my Canon camera with my 50 mm lens and started experimenting to see if I could capture it. Played around with the settings and shooting style, and I realised that with a two-second exposure, and by moving around the ball in central motion, I could capture a “video” in HD of the effect, and I could bring that with me!
So we leave, and I guess later in the dream we're in some place that's a mix of Panama and Asia, and the family’s there. I am stressed and I can feel pressure on my front two teeth, as sometimes I do, and then BAM! They snapped in two… Well no, one chipped from the pressure and gradually chipped more and more, and I was like, “OH FUCK!”, so I went for a walk to find a dentist. I went to this weird mall where I knew they had a pharmacy, and they sent me upstairs to an office building to get health care.
I go up the stairs and find reception, explaining to them that I have chipped my two front teeth and I don't know what to do about it. I don't necessarily need to be “seen to” today, I just need to know what to do.
The office is archaic, chaotic, bland, greys and whites, filing cabinets everywhere. But still in an organised, old way. The receptionist sends me to a man in an office behind me to the right.
I go in, and the guys abrupt and bothered. I say, “hello,” he says, “yes?” and I tell him I need to talk to a dentist. And he's like ”what do you want? “and I start explaining to him that my teeth have cracked and the enamel is peeling off and I'm really worried about it and I don't know what to d —
and he interrupts me with this really offended tone, and he's like, “don't tell me about your day,“ and I'm like “what?” and he's like “I'm not the dentist, you need to go and talk to blah blah two offices down.”
So I leave, I go back past the reception to an office on the left, and I see three, like, men in their late 40s sitting at some cheap, long table, wearing eccentric, 70s-style jackets, and I'm like “hi, I need to talk to a dentist?”
And one guy is like, “okay we have a dentist. But first, I'm going to see a movie tonight and I want to see if Joanna wants to come with me.”
So we walk into another office and there's this girl and some other people sitting at another long table, and the guy pulls out all these shiny gold letters out of his pocket, dumps them in a pile on the table in front of her and begins arranging them (upside down for him) in a formation that takes annoyingly long and says:
Joanna will you
go on a date
with me?
And then she agreed, and everybody celebrated because she said yes.
Then finally I got to see the fucking dentist.
We going to a room, a dentist's room, with square panel windows with wooden frames. You can see the entire city (well part of it).
I explain what happened, and she looks in my mouth and goes, “oh my god, do you smoke?” and I was like, “well, I used to, and I still use nicotine.” I told her I've never had any fillings, and she was surprised. Then she asked if I drink? Yes. Do I exercise? Yes.
She grabs the skin on the side of my cheek and squeezes it just below my eye to see my eye wrinkles and she’s like, “how old are you?” and I'm like “34,” and she's like:
“man, you gotta take better care of your body.
Don't you know it stops regenerating at 27?”
And then I wake up, fucking grateful for my teeth.
(The whole setting was ridiculous. It had this The Office-meets-Will-Ferrell type of ridiculousness.)
(Two nights before it was about Moon showers and tiny, tiny, yellow-duck like shoes with brushes at the heel.)
