Rafael the Raftafarian.
Day 28
Call me a tree-hugging hippie, but for the last two months we’ve been travelling with Rafael the Raftafarian travelling scoby. He’s kind of like our kid, because you have to feed him and he has a regular (albeit unobtrusively long) routine. He’s made about seven batches of Kombucha, travelling from Costa Rica to Panama, and soon to embark on a journey to New Zealand, Chile and China.
It’s not that hard moving with 6L of kombucha and a 20cmsq SCOBY when you’re with a guy who wants to do the “guy” thing and carry the heavy stuff, and so far Raf is doing better than his forebrother who met his fated demise through the aisles of a bus in San José just hours after we’d promised not to spill him.
